Al Wathba Fossil Dunes Protected Area, the first of its kind in the UAE and one of the earliest designated fossil dune reserves in West Asia, was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi.

Located 45 km east of Abu Dhabi and spanning 7 square kilometres, the site features more than 1,700 unique fossil dunes, making it one of the region’s most remarkable natural geological landscapes.

Arts Island contributed to the development of essential site infrastructure (potable water, drainage, electricity), visitor pathways, lighting, and support facilities that facilitate vistor accessibility and experience, whilst preserving the natural environment. Arts Island contribution helped ensure the site is safe, functional, and aligned with EAD’s vision for sustainable ecotourism and conservation.
